The BC Election – a Farce
Yes, today is our Provincial election. Like a responsible citizen I walked down to the village and cast my vote … and there the comedy began …
I was asked for ID and the elderly woman looked at my picture on my driver’s licence, didn’t check the address against the electoral roll, and handed it back to me. Apparently, I passed!
Next, the man sitting next to her clumsily folded the ballot sheets … one for the STV referendum and the other with the candidates’ names.
I applied my “kiss” to the squares of my choice and tried to fold the ballots back but they had been folded incorrectly, so when I handed them in, they unravelled, allowing the official to see my kisses! He apologized, refolded properly this time, and handed them back to me to put into the box. Which I did.
I was then asked if I would like a sticker! A sticker?? YES! Elections BC was offering voters round stickers for voters to wear proclaiming their voting action. I shudder to think how much those stickers cost – and this during a time of recession! Couldn’t that money have been better spent feeding the hungry?
Vote in BC! What a farce!!!
