Glamping in my backyard!

With Clayoquot owners, John and AdeleI have focused much of my travel blog on Turkey, Portugal, Spain and Italy.  However, it has dawned on me that we have many wonderful travel experiences right here in British Columbia, Canada – my own backyard!  Today, I would like to profile one that I can heartily recommend and for which I would be happy to handle your enquiries or reservations.

Remote. Refined. Remarkable. is the apt branding of Clayoquot Wilderness Retreat in the north of Vancouver Island.  Accessed by seaplane from Vancouver Airport’s South Terminal, the 3, 5 and 7 day all-inclusive packages at this Virtuoso property include more than one could every imagine.

During my recent 3 day visit, I experienced the ultimate in high quality, active British Columbian adventure travel right here in my own  backyard.  Clayoquot Wilderness Retreat is an incredibly unique experience that begins with a seaplane ride from YVR and from that very start, the whole all-inclusive Clayoquot experience is one that has to be lived to be believed!

I saw and photographed, close-up, whales, bears and their cubs, sea lions, seals, eagles fishing and between my hubby and I, caught about 60 lbs of salmon (that’s just two fish each!)  In addition, we rode horses through forest and pristine rivers, climbed trees and walls, hiked the wilderness, kayaked on the river, ate like Lords, practised archery, shot at clay-pidgeons (skeets), slept in a luxury tent on the river, had hot stone massage and the list goes on … whatever you want to do at Clayoquot, that is legal and feasible, you can and always with a friendly, qualified guide – whether there are just two of you or a small group.

The culinary experience at Clayquot is even more incredible when one considers this is a resort in the wilderness.  Warm and friendly chefs, under the professional eye of Executive Chef Tim May, prepare ingredients (as local as is feasible) for scrumptious meals in front of your eyes in the rustic and very beautiful “cookhouse.”  Wine-pairing is available for those wishing to round out their dining experience and Teresa, the resident sommelier, does a stellar job of educating guests about BC wines.  And when it comes to snacking, there are always yummy sweet and savoury treats, including home-made brownies, sitting on a counter begging for your attention!

So, if you are thinking about a special family-style trip, perhaps a special anniversary, birthday or even a wedding/honeymoon  where group members can participate in myriad outdoor activities, do click on the link above and check out this very special place.  If you would like to know more about this or other special places in beautiful British Columbia, please contact me here or call me at the number below.

Your warm welcome beside the huge log fire awaits you at Clayquot Wilderness Retreat.  P.S. I just thought of another word for this special brand … GENUINE!
