Another cost-saving tip …
… I said in the post below, “avoid shopping malls.” It just occurred to me that another area to avoid would be those warehouse-type outlets, such as Costco, where the temptation to buy is so great because the prices are considerably lower than elsewhere.
We used to shop Costco often, and raved about the savings. However, it is now a very rare event as we could never seem to leave without spending at least $300. And, even though we bought selectively, it was still too tempting to buy more than we intended.
I found it interesting to see what others had in their buggies. Huge packages of canned and packaged foods sat with multiple layers of soda pop and other “nil food value” items. Frozen dinners and giant packs of hot-dog buns and weiners were popular too. Seeing these purchases total hundreds of dollars was beyond my comprehension. Certainly, the buggies were full, compared to ours which had but one layer, but don’t people understand that those foods are full of salt, sugar and preservatives?
Perhaps this global economic crisis will force people to avoid these junk-food buying sprees and rethink fresh and home-made.
Here’s hoping … for health’s sake.
